How can I obtain authorization numbers for exams that require preauthorization?
Please contact AIM's Customer Service Department at (800) 252-2021 to find out how to contact the Preauthorization Department to receive an authorization number. If you are a medical office, click here to register to initiate a preauthorization on-line.

Which diagnostic imaging procedures require preauthorization?
The lists differ depending on insurer. You should have received a list of CPT codes requiring preauthorization in the mail, along with a detailed description of the preauthorization process. If you have additional questions regarding this process or would like a list of imaging procedures requiring preauthorization, please contact AIM, Inc.'s customer service department at (800) 252-2021.

How can I speed up the preauthorization process for my office?
Cases can be referred for additional medical review because of insufficient information provided when the initial call is placed. At a minimum, please be prepared to provide the following detailed information:

  1. Patient's name, identification number and date of birth
  2. Ordering physician information
  3. Imaging provider information
  4. Imaging exams being requested (body part, right, left, or bilateral)
  5. Patient diagnosis (suspected or confirmed)
  6. Clinical symptoms/ indications (intensity/duration)
  7. Results of past treatment history (previous tests, duration of previous therapy, relevant clinical medical history)

How can I verify if a preauthorization number has been issued?

How can I determine whether a member belongs to an employer group covered by AIM, Inc.'s diagnostic imaging management program?
First, check the insurance card to see if the member's health plan product participates with AIM, Inc. (e.g., HMO product versus PPO product). Once that has been confirmed, you can verify a member's eligibility on-line or through AIM, Inc.'s customer service department at (800) 252-2021.
