Chicago, IL – July 14, 2009 – American Imaging Management® (AIM®), an operating subsidiary of WellPoint, Inc. (NYSE: WLP), and leading imaging benefit management and technology company with health plan clients representing more than 35 million consumers, announced that it has added educational podcasts to the Patient Safety section of the company’s Web site, www.americanimaging.net. Narrated by David Soffa, MD, FACR, the initial podcasts provide information on AIM’s Patient Safety program and commentary on several imaging technologies such as mammography. Dr. Soffa, a Board certified radiologist, is AIM's Senior Vice President, Medical Affairs. Additional podcasts are in development and will be released on the Web site in the future. Podcasts are the latest component to the company’s patient safety efforts that were launched in 2008 to provide information and resources regarding diagnostic imaging. The podcasts can be accessed at http://www.americanimaging.net/safety/Podcast/. "As diagnostic imaging continues to evolve, it is increasingly important that information be made available to promote informed decision making between patients and their physicians," said Thomas Weisman, MD, MS, MBA, CPE, AIM’s Chief Medical Officer. "Podcasts offer another avenue for AIM to share information that can support this aspect of the patient-physician relationship." As one of the leading radiology benefit managers in the United States, AIM implemented the first components of its Patient Safety program in 2008. These components include the "Ask AIMEE" web application, which provides information on radiation dose and common uses of advanced imaging tests. # # #
